On Sale on December 30, 2013
I woke up this morning and realized we are just five days away from St. Andrew's Day. That's the Scottish version of St. Patrick's Day. It is celebrated on November 30th, usually with a big feast.
I'll be honest, I'm not super familiar with the holiday outside of what I read about it on Wikipedia. However, that is the day I picked for the official release of Scottish Songs of Drinking & Rebellion. The album went on pre-sale on iTunes three weeks ago. It looks like it is doing fairly well. Enough that it is charting well when you search for “Scottish drinking songs”. Oddly, enough there's really only one other album of “Scottish drinking songs” out there. It's an old folkways recording by Alan Lomax called Scottish Drinking & Pipe Songs.
This is probably the worst time of the year to officially release a CD that's not Christmas-related. But I am SO thankful that my Kickstarter went so well, I'm not too worried about it right now. In fact, I think I'm gonna wait until January to do another Top the Charts event for this album. Thank you for helping me make this album a hit before it was released.
In the meantime, I am gearing up for the next Burns Supper on January 25th. Robert Burns was born on January 25, 1759. He was a romantic who wrote dozens of poems and songs as well as preserved many of the Scottish folk songs of the era, all in the Scots dialect. His inspiration for the Scottish people led to the Burns Suppers being established on the anniversary of his death around 1797.
Can you imagine that? One man inspiring over two centuries of revelry?! It's pretty impressive.
Can you imagine Gunn Runners in various locations around the world, gathering together to celebrate indie Celtic music, not just in a pub, where the celebration is more about the alcohol than the music, rather, the music! Mayhaps that should be the legacy I work towards as I continue to build my music career and celebrate Celtic music with my podcast.
Of course, I'm no Robert Burns. And more than likely there won't be any more celebrations on my birthday than there already are (being a St. Patrick's Day baby). It is an exciting dream, however.
