Did You Have Fun at GenCon Too?

I want to thank you so much for joining me at GenCon this year. I had an absolute blast. I also got some ideas for next year. I'd love your feedback.

The Firefly Drinking Songs was once again a big hit. 175 seats sold out quickly. The sad part was that only 115 people attended the show.  The show still rocked, but I met a LOT of people who said, “I really wanted to go, but it was sold out.”

Did you go to the show? Were you unable to get tickets?

One thought I had was to charge for next year's show. My hope is that if the show cost more than a generic ticket, perhaps people who be less inclined to order and not use them.

What do you think? Would you be turned off from a $4 ticket instead of the $2? Or would you be happy to pay the extra to insure that you have a seat?

The Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers show was disappointing. The performance went rather well, but hey had me in a big ballroom. That was tough enough, but add the amtgarders and I think most everyone would agree the sound was terrible.

I have two options here:

One, is to add a show before or after Friday Night Live.

The second is to get one of the smaller rooms. We would be limited to 30 seats. The chance of scoring a seat would be tough. We had 75 sell out fairly quick. So I can only imagine what a 30 seater would be like.

I guess a third option is to just make sure I have a bigger sound system which could handle that better. I have one, but I prefer bringing the smaller system.

What are your thoughts? Which would you prefer?

That's about all the thoughts I have regarding next year. Please, please send me some feedback. What would you prefer?

Anyway, thank you so much for being a part of GenCon. You are awesome.

Slainte!

PS. Sci Fi Drinking Songs goes on sale officially on September 8th. You can pre-order it on iTunes right now. I'd love it if you would help me spread the word. Thanks!

  1. Loved both the Wednesday show and Friday Night Live. I would be willing to pay $4 instead of $2 and I thought the venue in the Crown was fine except for the obvious noise making sword fighters who had no business being there! My whole table was doing the WTF is this crap! You pulled it off though, so many kudos!

I think a smaller room would be bad for business. Even with the obnoxious crowd that gathered Wednesday it would still be better to have a larger audience. As for a larger sound system, that might be a bad idea also. The size you would need would probably stir up the hotel all the way to the third floor. I would be all for it but the hotel management might think differently! 🙂

If there is no other venue or no way to prevent the barbarian horde from joining us then I would say we just show them who is the better group! We can make noise too!

Wish you luck during DragonCon and safe travels. See you next year at GenCon!

  2. We attended the Thursday night show and loved it. This was my first time at Gen Con. I really enjoyed myself. We bought both the firefly and sci fi cd’s and listen to them daily. We listened to firefly all the way home that Sunday. I wouldn’t have any problems paying more for the show. Loved your show. Wish the show had been a little longer as there are songs on the cd that I would have loved to hear. Great time had by all who were there with me.
