Today, I want to share with you my pick of the Best Celtic Bands of 2014. All were featured in the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast, THE show for the Best indie Celtic music online.
The show is sponsored by my patrons at marcgunn.net
I had a brilliant time at GaFilk this weekend. It's been far too long since I went to that convention. It was awesome to see so many awesome people. Top of the list are Brenda and Bill Sutton. They are awesome people and fantastic filkers. I got to chat with Dene Foye who released his first album of Celtic music (I got a copy). Dene was one of the musicians who performed on Don't Go Drinking With Hobbits. Michael Liebmann of Southern Fried Filk (who sells my music) was there pimping my Irish & Celtic Music Podcast and music. He's truly awesome. I got to chat with FilkFerengi and of course, I shared a table with the awesome Blibbering Humdingers.
I love the Humdingers. They're a Wizard Rock band with some fun songs, and quirky, satirical sense of humor. They also have a huge Scadian base. I never got into the SCA, but these are the kind of people who make me wish I had found it before I started playing music.
I also had the pleasure of meeting SJ Tucker at long last. I've been hearing about “Sooj”, as they call SJ, for a while. She calls her music “Pixie Pirate MythPunk Folk Rock”. Her show was intense and ballady with a Delta blues, jazzy feel. She's a good storyteller, engaging and smiles through the entire show.
It got me thinking about what makes people rave about some musicians, and while I didn't really talk to her much, she definitely had an alluring charisma… and she was very grateful. Good qualities for any musician or business-person of any sort.
