CD Debut Hurrahs!

We did it!  It was an exciting ride, and if you haven't seen the results, “Nancy Whiskey” and Not Every Day is St. Patrick's Day had an exciting debut on iTunes and (especially!) on Amazon!  You can read all about the debut here, but the highlights are that on iTunes, “Nancy Whiskey” made it to #12, while the album climbed all the way to #5 on the World Music charts!  Here's the album at #8:

Thanks to Marc's Facebook friends for posting screen caps!

On Amazon, the sights were even better:  the single went all the way to #1, and the album did almost as well: #2 for Traditional British and Celtic Folk and for Traditional Folk!  Among all Folk Albums it registered a very respectable #22.  Bought the album?  Hop on over and post a review on Amazon!

Not Every Day is St. Patrick's Day boasts some great traditional songs, including songs like “Dicey Riley,” “Kilkelly” and “Henry Martin” that I first heard in O'Flaherty's Irish Pub in the French Quarter in New Orleans (closed after Hurricane Katrina) when I was in college and used to go regularly to listen to Betsy McGovern and her band The Poor Clares (which, at the time of their CD Resurrected Lover, included Beth Patterson).  Great memories of my first introduction to live Celtic music!

And speaking of live Celtic music… Marc's CD release performances on Google Hangout attracted a good deal of interest!  But for one reason or another, not everyone who wanted to see a show got a chance to see the show.  However, Marc will be having another Google Hangout performance soon, on Sunday, February 3rd, so be looking for more details!

In other news…

Having outfitted yourself with great Celtic music, you might be interested to know that you can keep yourself fully attired in Celtic-music style.  So if you did not get that special present this holiday season–or if your special present happened to be a kilt–treat yourself to a “Kilted for Her Pleasure” t-shirt from the new supply that just came in!  I have to smirk a little more than usual at these shirts, since I am rereading (and blogging) the Outlander books by Diana Gabaldon, and let's just say there are many kilts and much pleasure to be had in the 7 books (and counting) of the series.

More t-shirts are in the works!  Celtophilia will soon be selling exclusive, licensed Marc Gunn Celtfather t-shirts to give even more wardrobe options!

From the podcast…

Have you been listening to the Irish and Celtic Music Podcast, show #134?  What are your favorites from the podcast–or from 2012?  I love the “Best of” podcast every year, and was waiting for this one.  I would have to say that my favorite was “Belfast Mountains” by Colleen Raney & Colm MacCarthaigh, but a song I like even more from their CD Cuan (available for online preview) is “Bound for Caladonia,” featured in show #125.

If you do have a favorite from show #134, don't forget to vote!  Maybe “Belfast Mountains” will make it onto the best of 2013 as well!  (hint, hint)
