Collector’s Swamp My Facebook for Geek Memorabilia

It's time to find a good home for my Star Wars cards. I have some from all three movies and almost a complete deck of Return of the #Jedi cards. Email me if you're interested. #starwars #tradingcards #returnofthejedi
I took a break from recording today to take stuff out of my attic. In one box was a bunch of Star Wars items like the Star Destroyer, some X-Wings and Yoda's swamp. Another box had my Elvis Presley fan club memorabilia. Still another had old issues of Dragon Magazine and all of my AD&D books. Then there's the letters and school notes and all sorts of dusty stuff I saved and stored in my dad's attic 15 or so years ago.

You can buy this stuff on Facebook (some even dirt cheap).

What do you do with all of that history? The school stuff is mostly in the trash. But Dungeons & Dragons and Star Wars and Elvis Presley. Those were a huge part of my life. The thought of parting with my D&D books is bizarre. I sold a couple X-Wing fighters and my GI Joe figures, but Star Wars figures? I don't know if I can let those go.

There's been an entrepreneurial part of me for years who thought I'd wait until they might be worth something. Thirty years later, some of them are. But are they worth losing a piece of your childhood? That's what several people asked me on Facebook as I offer lots of stuff for sale.

When I was a kid, I was a collector. I collected lots of things. Not just for the prestige of owning though. I played with ALL my Star Wars figures, and dammit I'm proud of that. But some things… the time has past. I don't need 'em any longer. They are a pleasant memory and a part of growing up. In fact, you could chart my life by Star Wars and then D&D.

Now I take pictures. How many items did I find and think, “I don't remember this”? And for good reason. My pictures are now my memories. That's good enough for me.

So while I'm here in Texas, I hope to go through the last of my boxes and sell or discard those items from my past so I can move on with my future, like making music… which is filled with memories of my past.
