Marc's Musings

Greetings <:firstname:>,

I just finished a web committee meeting with the Austin Celtic Association. There's a new board anxious to build the Austin Celtic community. I look at places in the Northeast, Chicago and most places around the U.S., and I see these amazingly united communities. Then there's us. We're fragmented. That makes it tough to make our events the best they can be, but I hope to help change that.

If you live in this area, come join our growing community. If not, get involved with your own. Just a few volunteers a couple nights a month can make a HUGE difference in your community's success.

MOTHER EGAN'S THIS WEEKEND, UPCOMING EVENTS & OTHER BIZ

Our committee met at Mother Egan's and in just two nights I will be back here playing music with the Brodingnagian Bards. Right now, there's a talented bluesy americana duo playing. It's getting me in the mood to play here at Mother Egan's on Saturday evening (at 8PM).

Actually, life is busy all around. Yesterday, I confirmed that I will be at Scarborough Faire on Sunday to do some interviews for my Renaissance Festival Podcast and to socialize.

I've done a lot recently which is great, except I'm worried. In about two weeks, we go back on tour from Georgia to Colorado and then back home. It is tough getting back into the swing of things after a long tour. Yesterday, I had a music marketing mentoring meeting with a local musician, my many podcasts are going great, and I am exercising almost daily. Yet, will I still do all those things on tour? Or at least when I get back? I just don't know.

That is the life I've chosen, and considering my business meetings are moved from slick, sterile offices to coffee houses and pubs, I really can't complain. For the first time in years, I feel at peace. I feel like I am enjoying life and not just making the motions. It's a dream come true. I could never have imagined how wonderful reality would become. And thank you for being a part of it.

CAT CD NOW ON iTUNES

At long last, I just checked out iTunes and found my cat CD on it. Man, I love CDBaby. I've been waiting impatiently for that since November. It's such an awesome site for selling music online.

That combined with my new cat T-Shirts and I've got a lot happening. Though yesterday, I finished compiling a Brobdingnagian Bootleg CD that I hope to release in the very near future. Keep an eye open for some great Bard music.

NOW ON MYSPACE

I got on Myspace last summer, but I never really used the site. It is very unstable as a website goes, but the potential for building fans and just meeting new people is just brilliant. I'm turning into a myspace junkie... hmm... There sounds like a song in there somehwere.

Well if you are on myspace, come friend me and my Irish & Celtic Music Podcast

I look forward to getting to know you there.

Marc's Lyrics & Poetry

Jedi Drinking Song Prequel (Revenge of the Bards)
by Marc Gunn & Andrew McKee

With the brilliant success of the Jedi Drinking Song a few years ago, I decided I wanted to write my own Jedi drinking song based on the Episode I. I started writing the song, but it just wasn't working for me. So I set it aside and then the next two movies came out. So I started the song again. And this time, it flowed. But in effort to make it better, I invited Andrew to co-write the song. The music is all done. Now we just need to learn the song.

A long time ago before Vader's sexual peak.
I met him there on Tattooine. He drank like he was Greek.
His momma said he's been this way since he was only three.
Qui Gon in awe said, "He's the one to fulfill the prophecy."

Qui Gon took young Anakin the Council for to see.
But Yoda said, "Afraid am I, drink irresponsibly."
So Qui Gon told Anakin, "Watch how I drink and all"
Then poor old Qui Gon drank too many shots with Darth Maul.

So drink yourself a shot of scotch, then down a pint of beer
Do not think that you can drink that boy under a chair.
Because Anakin will slam a beer with a lassie on each knee.
And when he finally sobers up, a sith at last he'll be.

C3P0 was well-designed to be a great bartender.
He could make six million drinks and put you on a bender.
With R2D2 by his side, he had a keg on wheels
And for Amadala, Ani drunk had extra FORCE appeal

I told my master Qui Gon Jinn I'd teach the boy to drink.
"No more than just one pint an hour." Said Anakin, "That Stinks!
Amidala likes me best when I'm all liquered up."
So he used the force to bring a round, then knocked the lassie up.

[solo]
When we drink, drunk we get.
When drunk we are, free of distraction are our minds.
When free of distraction, one with the Force we become.
So drunk let's get and become one with the Force.
(Hurry, we must. Jedi Happy Hour starts at 5.)

Meanwhile, Chancellor Palapatine needed a new lush.
He ordered grog for Anakin so he'd never sober up.
The twins were born but how I wish that one more thing could be.
That all the fans were all quite drunk with Star Wars 1 through 3.

*Jar Jar might've made sense*

*Yeah, I bet George was liquered when he came up with that one*
