Poll: How did you first find my music?

I have thousands of fans around the world. I spend a LOT of time promoting my music online. People often email asking how I do everything I do. My entire philosophy of online promotion has been about being everywhere. And if you do a search forย Celtic music, you're very likely to find me there.

What I don't know, is how you first found my music? ย Would you mind sharing? I'd love stories in the comments section too!

  1. Hi Marc! I first heard your music during an interview the radio station on Mymiddleearth.com way back before your little one had her surgery. My granddaughter adores your kitty songs.

  2. My friend Taylor taught me the song “Old Dun Cow” while we were driving around on a wild adventure outside of Dublin, Georgia. When I got home, I looked up the song on iTunes and I found the Brobdingnagian Bards’ version. I went on thebards.net and started listening to all the music there. That was back in 2007 or 2008, so it’s been a while. I’ve been a fan ever since!

  3. Our daughter introduced us to the music of the Brobdingnagian Bards back in the ’90s. The rest is history!

  4. Went looking for cat songs on internet for a slide show of pictures of my cat. After that, I got to know Marc’s other music and the rest is history

  5. A friend told me about the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast and we found Emerald Rose and became fans. Later I heard more and more songs of you and that’s it ๐Ÿ™‚
And thanks for telling me about Heather Dale, she is so fantastic.

  6. It has been a while but if I remember right it was a song via the FuMP. If not that somehow I ran across one of your filk songs.

Drove my wife a bit crazy that my daughters tended to sing the feline version lyrics for some of the traditional songs. ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. My girlfriend first played some of the Brobdingnagian Bards music for me. Then we saw you play at iCon around 2010. You might remember us – we gave you a lift to the con from our hotel.

  8. We had arrived at ALEP2 and were walking around getting a feel for the place. All of the sudden, here was this lovely music! We looked over and there were you and Samantha, just sitting on the grass, playing and singing. I taped it on my camera (just watched it again yesterday, as a matter of fact), and we thought, “Yeah, this is going to be fun!” Your wonderful music was one of the many highlights of ALEP for us.

  9. My girlfriend at the time bought your “Kilted For Her Pleasure” T-shirt for me, and after visiting your website on the shirt, I bought the CD. Then I bought another. And another. And here I am now.

  10. My family and I first met you when you did the fundraiser in Lafayette, La. for our animal rescue, Acadiana Humane Society. Before that we had not heard your music. Now we are all hooked, even the cats! All of our personal and foster cats love your music and will relax and just chill to your music when we play your CDs.

  11. When it was discovered that I also played autoharp, and was going to Ren faires, I was told about you and your music. While we play entirely different styles of most music, we share that common bond of that (magic) box of strings

  12. I searched for Irish and Celtic music on MP3.com a long time ago, found the Brobdingnagian Bards, and now I’m here. ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. I was looking for a song I could sing at the Pub Sing at the FL Renaissance Festival and I found St Patrick Never Drank…then I found the podcast

  14. Marc — I first found your music on a site about cats! Got a few charming free downloads (I think they were Molly Malone and What Shall We Do with a Catnipped Kitty) and have followed you ever since, whether you were singing about felines or not. Thanks for all the great music.

  15. Seeing the Bards play was a consistent highlight of my I Con experience for a number of years. Later on I enjoyed your solo sets as well. (Here’s hoping I Con manages to resurrect itself someday…).

  16. I found you and a lot of other great artists on mp3.com many years ago. I wish it hadn’t imploded.

  17. I went to a panel on Celtic Music long time ago with a friend who said I had to hear this panel… It was at AGGIECON about 8-10 yrs ago.. she said their name was the B.Bards.. I went enjoyed the panel purchased a couple of c-ds.. Next time I saw you was at D.C. in atlanta.. You weren’t married yet to set the date.. I was there to see Anne McCaffery & a couple of others..Never been to a con so HUGE!!! My son was waiting next to your table when I came bursting out of a panel in full fury.. ( enough said about that) You gave me a list of your shows & managed to calm me down.. After it has been that when you are in TX., I try to be close to the front of the audience..

  18. I found a clip online of Wild Kitty and I was hooked, bought several copies of the CD and I’m a total music junkie now.

  19. I breed and show cats. Someone posted a link to your Irish Drinking Songs For Cats (specifically “What Should We Do With a Catnipped Kitty”) on one of the Cat Fancier lists and I was hooked after the first listen. I’ve long been a fan of Celtic music, and it was wonderful to be able to combine my love of cats with that.

  20. It’s been so long I’m not sure I remember. I heard the Brog Bards on Live365 filk music along with Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers. The rest fell into place with the FuMP (not listed I should mention) and the Ren Fest podcast.

  21. Many many years ago, I heard some songs of the Brobdingnagian Bards on Highlander Radio (internet radio) then searched Google. I found you and your podcasts, and the rest is history!

  22. I believe I found you thru Youtube. Don’t go drinking with hobbits. How I found that video? Who knows… That led me to your other videos at the time my interest in Celtic music was blossoming, and here we are.

  23. I found you on youtube. I was in the mood to hear “Whisky in the Jar”, and clicked on your version. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve heard since. Do you ever perform at Mcguire’s Irish Pub in Pensacola/Destin?

  24. I started with the Bards, then added Irish & Celtic, followed by Renaissance, Pub songs & Celtic music. Loved them all & look forward to more podcasts. Keep up the great work. It fills me with joy.

  25. The first time I heard your voice was in 2006, when I was looking for podcasts to listen to, and I ran across The Renaissance Festival Podcast on Podcast Alley.

  26. First heard your music via Brobdingnagian Bards at ALEP 2008. The music was an absolute highlight of an absolutely wonderful time. I still consider your “Memories of Middle Earth” CD to be the Official ALEP 1 soundtrack… ๐Ÿ™‚

  27. I went on MP3.com and searched for “Lord of the Rings”. There you and Mr. McKee were. It seems to have been over a decade ago, which is kind of creepy to think about.

  28. I first heard your music when my co-worker at work played your music on his ipod at work. I liked it so much that I researched online and found your Brobdingnagian Bards site. I bought them on that site and on CD Baby site. When you branched off on your own, I continued buying your Marc Gunn CDs. I also listened to your pod broadcasts. Thanks for sharing.

    Jeff Peterson

  29. I bought a ZUNE mp3 player and was looking through the podcasts and found you and robin around renfrest podcast #35 and have not stopped yet

  30. Either last.fm or cdbaby, on an obscure page with lots of cat music I hadn’t previously discovered–soon after …for cat lovers was released, I think.

  31. I was searching for the girl group, the one with the bouncy blonde violin player, and found you instead. Lol. I cannot even remember the name of that girl group now, but it doesn’t matter anyway. I lost interest in them quickly once I found you !! This was several years ago too, but I’ve not listened to them since, other than a PBS special, and have been your devoted fan ever since discovering you. I may be one of your oldest fans too, at 65 !! This has been one time I was glad my search engine didn’t give me what I asked for. It actually gave me something MUCH better and WAY funnier too. Many of your songs put me into hysterical laughter–and that’s a good thing. I have cats too, so you hit home runs there also. Lol. I love your voice, all your songs, the Autoharp, just everything about your music !! Greatest discovery of my life I think !! Good luck in all your endeavors !! Hugs from the hills of West Virginia !! Ginger

  32. My brother Tom introduced me to your music…and I am glad he did. He loves the Celtic sound and so do I.
