It's funny how just one song can make things come together or not. Yesterday, I was telling you a little about how I choose the song order for my CDs. The toughest thing to do is figure out that first song… So I let my wife pick it. 😉
What's amazing is that everything came together beautifully after that!
In fact, once I had that first song, I started noticing a few themes throughout the album. The album starts with some of my favorite songs on the album–“A Working in the Garden”, “Scouring the Shire”, “Elves”, “Don't Go Drinking With Hobbits”, and “The Ring of Hope”.
After that I follow a thematic progression. We arrive at “The Prancing Pony” where we sing our tribute to exploration–“Let's Get Drunk Tonite”. While there, “We'll Have a Pint of Stout”. (Together now. “They come in pints?!”
After that, we step back from the Pony singing “Everybody Needs a Drinking Song”. That's where Samwise must share is love of “Rose”.
Back in The Shire, a party is brewing. That's where we break out “The Shire Polkas” and Bilbo gets dressed. I gotta say, he is “A Well-Dressed Hobbit”. Then everyone gathers to sing the “Hobbit Birthday Song” before Bilbo takes the stage to make a speech. “Bilbo's Farewell” is beautifully executed (much like it was at A Long Expected Party back in 2008). Bilbo may vanish there among the “Wildflowers of Party Field”, but the party doesn't end there.
In fact, people drink to their hearts' content. Soon the hobbits are talking to the animals…and vice versa–“Said the Horse to the Hobbit”. They also start telling children's stories about “Cat and Rat”. That doesn't stop them from drinking. “Do You Fancy a Drink?”
Finally, “The Hobbits Journey Home” right after singing their favorite song of farewell–“Raise a Glass in Parting”.
Well, there you go. I *think* that's the complete track listing in story form. I should have more news about these fine hobbit songs soon. Please help spread the news.
