My mom had an old tube record player and a few dozen 45s from Columbia House. Those records formed my love of music.

I listened for hours on end. It’s how I fell in love with The Everly Brothers, Kingston Trio, Bobby Darin, The Coasters, David Seville, and of course, my idol, Elvis Presley.

I found comedy songs and love ballads. I learned to dance with blissful abandon. I listened over and over and over again (this dance is gonna be a drag…)

Where would I be without that record player?

That question has haunted me a lot as my oldest daughter, with her own unique love of music, is forced to listen only when I’m around. She’s had no control of her own. Until now!

It was almost bed time. Before putting her sister to bed, I showed her how to find kids music on Spotify.

Now she is in control. She can find music that she will love. Music that she can listen to over and over and over again.

I look forward to hearing what she finds… I hope…
