One of the reasons I podcast so regularly is to keep Gunn Runners informed about what I'm up to musically. That's why the Pub Songs Podcast is running weekly for the next four weeks. It was one of my many tests to see what works and what doesn't.
So far my Pub Songs Podcast test is a success. I've released four episodes weekly, even while hitting one of my biggest shows of the year and moving too. It's not easy. But I did it.
What isn't working is that it's a distraction.
I love creating podcasts and music. But I'm not recording music like I should be.
That's why I quit my job in 2005. I wanted to do music. Podcasting was just a diversion for when I wasn't making music.
It's too much though. I need to focus on writing and recording music. So when this test is over, I won't continue a weekly podcast.
That also means I need an alternative means of updating you about what's new for the week. Or perhaps I don't need those updates at all. Maybe my newsletter is good enough.
Course I'm also looking for new ways to engage with video.
So here's my plan for the next month:
I'm gonna drop the Pub Songs Podcast down to twice a month.
I still love the medium. I love it as a promotion tool. But I want to use those other two weeks to record and see if I can at least release a new song to patrons every month.
That is going to be a huge challenge, I'm sure. I will try nonetheless.
Every Tuesday, I'm going to do a live news update to start my week. I don't know what time that will be yet. Nor do I know what platform to broadcast on. I feel like I should try Instagram. We shall see.
Each video will have me discussing upcoming shows, new podcasts and work plans for the week. I'll try to keep it around 3-5 minutes in length.
PS. This week's Pub Songs Podcast highlights the music and my adventures at Dragon Con 2019.
