We had an awesome opening day for the Georgia Renaissance Festival. The weather was perfect. The crowds are out in full force. My shows were full of people. Great sing-alongs. It was just fun!
I have four shows daily. Three at the Brewer's Pub at 12, 1:30 and 4:30 and one at the Oasis Stage. I love the Brewer's Pub. I don't think I've had a better stage at a faire. By 4:30, the audiences are a little loud and drunk, but the early shows rock. The stage has good vibe.
The Oasis Stage is kinda cool though. It's situated next to the joust. My show starts right after the joust at 3pm. It feels like the stage I've always longed for. There are cushions on the ground, a few seats in back. The atmosphere is lovely and relaxed. It's an “oasis”.
The first day trouble I ran into was what to play. Upon seeing the stage, I thought, “This would make a great stage to play the ballads I love.” The problem is that I've spent so much time working on a pub show, I need to work out what ballads I want to play and how to engage an audience with a different vibe of songs.
Course, I didn't even get to play the ballads today because after the joust ended a horde of parents with kids arrived. I felt like I should play some upbeat fun songs for kids. So I mixed and matched my set list to include songs about hobbits, elves, cats, and Celts. It was a bit scattered. So tomorrow, I'm gonna try and stick with my original plan of playing ballads, to see if I can master another show style. Can I? I hope so. I do love ballads.
Scottish Songs of Drinking & Rebellion Now on Kickstarter
Last night, I got the final approval from Kickstarter. My next CD Scottish Songs of Drinking & Rebellion is now live on Kickstarter. You can help me fund this album before it is officially released at the end of the year (or maybe next year).
I am excited to see that the album is already 20% funded after the first day. I need to raise about $3700 to pay for the album. And I'm a fifth of the way there. W00t!
If this excitement keeps up, I'm kinda hopeful that I might actually be able to fund TWO CDs with this campaign… But I shouldn't get my hopes up. Let's get the Scottish CD funded first!
Special thanks to everyone who sponsored the album so far. And thanks also to everyone who is helping me to spread the word.
Time to get some rest for another great day at faire tomorrow. Slainte!
No matter what you played…I’m sure the crowds enjoyed them! See you soon!
