Have You Been Suckered Today?

It's interesting being a “marketer”. You understand and appreciate certain things that are marketed. Like the simple phrase “fair and balanced news”. It's the catch phrase of Fox News. And it is a marketing slogan.

Fox News is quite brilliant. The business was established by conservatives who want to hear conservative news. Those are marketing words that mean, “we want conservatives to feel good about themselves when they watch the news.” Thus, it is not, in all honesty, “fair and balanced”. It's news that was legitimately designed with a targeted audience in mind. It has a built in bias.

That's what it is so fascinating about Fox News. While CNN, NPR, MSNBC all “attempt” to be objectively biased, Fox News does not. That is against their mission statement and their marketing agenda. If you've ever seen a “liberal” on the show, you've seen a hired actor who plays the liberal role, and not all too convincingly. In order to follow their mission statement, they have to make conservatives look strong and liberals weak.

Once up on a time, I to listened to Democracy Now. Then I realized it was a flaming liberal propaganda radio show. So I stopped. I want unbiased news. That's the same reason I don't watch or care what Fox News has to say. I want “real” news… unbiased news… or as real and unbiased as each individual reporter can make it. Bias is inherent in the news. But it doesn't have to be so far fetched that Fox News' bias IS news.

That worries me. Today, I received word that if Obama is not elected, then the country might go to Civil War. That was the first I heard about that.

Is that the content that is published by Fox News to sell their point? I don't know. I'm frightened that it is.

While I respect Fox News' decision to sell their biased opinion, I am worried that people are taking Fox News as “fair and balanced news”. It is not. If you believe that, then I have this great bridge to sell you. You'll love it!
