St. Patrick's Day is rapidly approaching.  I thought I'd spend this weekend in between shows prepping for the weeks to come, but alas, no time. I have lots of geeky Celtic music to play.  Instead, I thought I'd share some of the Alabama Celtic music from my neck of the woods.

I started a website called Alabama Celtic Calendar with my friend Jil Chambless.  Jil is a brilliant Celtic musician who has played with another of my favorites, Ed Miller, over the past few years.  But she has several bands and knows the community much better than I.  The calendar highlights Celtic music in Northern Alabama.  There's a dormant organization, the Alabama Celtic Association, who's mission is to promote throughout the state of Alabama, but in mind that's just too big a proposition.  Marketing is all about focusing on the niche.  Northern Alabama seems like a pretty big niche as it is.

The Alabama Celtic Calendar features Celtic music groups, dance studios, and cultural organizations in Birmingham, Huntsville, and Tuscaloosa (and their surrounding areas).  Jil and I started it to help share Celtic events since the ACA was unable to at present.  Plus, I do this with many places I live.  Have you seen my Austin Celtic Calendar, or my Irish Music of New Orleans websites?

Want to Help Celtic Musicians in Your Community?

Forgive me a quick tangent.  Would you like to help your local Celtic music and cultural community?  Might I suggest you create your own website.  Websites these days are easy as can be.  You can get a domain for $10 from GoDaddy.  You can host it there too… Or you can just create a site on WordPress.com.  Steal my webpage categories and create your own niche website.  Promote it.  Tell me about.  (Link to my webpages. 🙂

Not only are such sites extremely valuable to your Celtic community, but you become an authority.  Bands will love you.  You'll attract traffic and help people out.  What's cooler than the feeling you get from helping others.

Oh yeah!  I was talking about Alabama Celtic music and musicians.  Aside from Jil Chambless, I'm also friends with Jasper Coal, Bourbon and Shamrocks, SlipJig, and The Whiskey River Kings.
