I was listening to The Creative Penn podcast and heard the first good advice for professional introverts who attend conventions EVER!
You see, most music biz and other professionals say conventions are essential to your success. Go! Network! Yeah, that's Great advice… for extroverts. But many introverts have a natural aversion to schmoozing. So that advice is shite. One reason I play music is so people come up to me because I'm terrified to walk up to strangers and start talking to them!
In less than one minute, Joanna Penn offered practical advice. She researches who's gonna be at the con. Before the con, she schedules meetups with the people she wants to network with, offering her help along the way.
Okay, that just makes sense to me. Now, mind you, it doesn't seem like perfect advice for the average entrepreneur because most don't have a B2B podcast that can offer to do an interview. Nevertheless, it opens up new ideas and thoughts on how to make the most of conventions as a business person and as an introvert.
What about you? Are you an introvert? Do you attend conventions? How do stand out? How do you get through the con as an introvert? I'd love your thoughts.
