Beer tastes better with drinking songs. That's my belief anyway.

But you need someone who understands them.

I'm Marc Gunn. I started playing Irish drinking songs 24 years ago at Renaissance festivals because they were fun. The songs added to the overall lively atmosphere. But that's not why I started playing music. I wanted to be a songwriter, like my musical heroes.

I started writing my own songs in a rhythm & folk style. The music was more accessible than the folk style I played with traditional Irish songs. The lyrics I wrote also needed to be accessible. I wrote about things I love, science fiction and fantasy, but I made them more accessible to people unfamiliar with the source material.

That's what Sci F'Irish music is to me. I can sing a traditional Irish song like “Wild Rover”, then follow it up with an original sing along song inspired by the TV show Firefly, like “She's Shiny”. You have fun and sing along even if you've never heard watched the show.
