I love to travel, even if it’s filled with complications. I look at these as part of what makes a trip special and memorable.
This year’s Celtic Invasion of the Isle of Skye in Scotland started with a flight delay…of six hours!
Seriously. What causes a six hour delay?!
Fortunately, I got the notice six hours before my scheduled departure. So I spent the next two hours figuring out an alternative route to get me in Inverness BEFORE the Invasion began.
Actually it was rather unfortunate. It also meant I had two less hours to spend with my daughter. That bit!
I caught a plane to Chicago. I listened to audiobooks and podcasts all the way. Occasionally, I pulled out Evernote and recorded ideas from stuff I learned while listening.
There was all sorts of racing around Chicago to catch my plane in time. But what struck me as I ran was one of my travel weaknesses. Introversion.
I’m an a introvert and a bit of a recluse at times. I love my alone time. It inspires and energizes me. Usually.
Sometimes, it’s too much.
Sometimes I’m so busy enjoying my podcasts with my headphones on, blocking out the world, that I forget to pay attention. I also forget to interact.
I certainly found myself doing that in Chicago when I pulled out the AirPods to talk to a couple travelers. It was a pleasant reminder to BE in the moment.
The best memories are made by living.
Of course that didn’t stop me in London when I left one of said AirPods at the security gate. I was so relieved to find it still sitting on the table where I set it down to gather up my bags.
Course that time wasn’t podcasts distracting me. That was me not opening my eyes to pay attention to the world around me.
After that, I left the AirPods out and focused on life. I made my first video where I critique the Verizon TravelPass. It only took five takes. Lol.
I also got to FaceTime with both my girls before my flight to Glasgow. I’m planning some finger puppet videos for my daughters. I just need some ideas. Those come by being present.
So that’s my goal for this adventure. I’m gonna have fun and be here!
