- Even Glasgow's name speaks to its environmental heritage: “Glaschu”, the Gaelic name for Glasgow, means grey-green hollow. Some 1,500 years after its founding, the Scottish city ranks highest of any in the UK (and eighth overall) on the Global Destination Sustainability Index, where it's placed in the top 10 every year since 2016.
CELEBRITY CHEF RICHARD CORRIGAN OPENS COUNTRY ESTATE UP FOR WEEKEND FOODIE RETREAT
- CELEBRITY Irish chef Richard Corrigan will open his country estate in Co. Cavan up this year for a weekend foodie retreat.
- The restaurateur, who owns Corrigan's Bar & Restaurant, Bentley’s Oyster Bar and Grill, Daffodil Mulligan Restaurant & Gibney's Bar in London, also has the Virginia Park Lodge in Cavan.
THE EIGHT PUBS NAMED THE BEST IN WALES
- Eight pubs have been named the best in Wales, and will be part of a national award ceremony which recognises the best in each county of the United Kingdom. They are all on the 2024 National Pub & Bar Awards list, after being identified by judges as standing out above the rest.
- Pub & Bar magazine runs the annual event, which each year crowns nearly 100 county winners from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, with the intention of giving each site “a unique platform to promote themselves and increase guest footfall from locals and visitors alike”.
