SHITE TALK: AN IRISH HISTORY PODCAST – WILLIAM DESMOND TAYLOR – HOLLYWOOD'S FIRST MURDER MYSTERY
- Hello! We're back after an accidental hiatus and we've got a refreshed version of one of the first stories we ever covered, the murder mystery of the Carlow-Hollywood director; William Desmond Taylor.
- We retold this story live in Carlow over the summer and got some updated information from local writer, and all round lovely man, Marc-Ivan O'Gorman.
IRISH PRODUCER ED GUINEY REVEALS INSPIRATION BEHIND ‘FASCINATING’ NEW SERIES THE LISTENERS
- A ‘HAUNTING' new series which centres on a teacher who can hear a sound that no one else can hear premieres tonight.
- The Listeners, which is produced by Ireland’s Element Pictures, is based on the novel of the same name by Jordan Tannahill.
FOLK ON FOOT: LUNATRAKTORS AT THE BETHLEM ROYAL HOSPITAL
- Delve into the history of madness as we walk with the “broken folk” duo Lunatraktors in the 200 acre grounds of the Bethlem Royal Hospital in South London. Clair le Couteur and Carli Jefferson are fascinated by the story of the hospital which was founded in the 13th century by monks – and nicknamed “Bedlam”. They perform songs inspired by the place including a mash up of “Tom O’Bedlam” with “Mad Maudlin” and “Through Moorfields”. They also don their “hazard bear” costumes for s spot of improvised overtone singing.
SCOTLAND’S MIGRATION SERVICE EXPANDED
- Scotland’s Migration Service, which provides information and advice for people, employers and investors, has been expanded to offer support to a wider range of individuals.
- The service will support newcomers to settle in Scotland, help more people and employers to navigate the immigration system, and attract more working-age people to Scotland – helping address skills shortages and curb population decline.
CALLED ‘MURDERING SCUM' BUT STILL FIGHTING FOR THE HUNT
- “There's only so many times you can turn a deaf ear to being called murdering scum,” smiles former fox hunt master Byron John.
- He says it in a jokey way, as people tend to do when trying to deflect from a serious and emotionally difficult topic.
- It has been almost 20 years since hunting foxes with dogs was banned, but Mr John says he still finds himself in a “fight for survival” to keep elements of the sport he loves alive.

- Presented by the Dunedin Scottish Arts Foundation, the Dunedin Celtic Music & Craft Beer Festival is an annual event outdoor festival featuring multiple musical acts ALL DAY! Held RAIN or SHINE, each year the main stage features regional, national, and international Celtic music artists along with the City of Dunedin Pipe Band.
