IRISH HISTORY PODCAST: IRISH LIVES IN VICTORIAN LONDON: HISTORY AND INFLUENCE
- Victorian London was a city of immense wealth, but also shocking poverty. The historian Jerry White described it as “a metropolis of wealth, grandeur, culture, and sophistication alongside a hell of starving, degrading, and heart-rending poverty.” The largest city in the world at the time, London was also home to tens of thousands of Irish emigrants. While there was a wealthy Irish elite, the vast majority were poor labourers.

- COMEDIAN Jimmy Cricket was born James Mulgrew in Cookstown, Co. Tyrone and brought up in Belfast.
- He first rose to fame in the 1970s after winning a TV talent show.
- Jimmy was subsequently given his own television series on a show called And There's More produced by Central Television.

NEW CORNWALL THREE-DAY MUSIC EVENT WON'T IMPACT LOCAL AREA, SAY ORGANISERS
- A Cornwall Council licensing committee heard today (Wednesday, December 18) that the production costs of staging a one-day concert event are so prohibitive it makes more financial sense for the organisers to put on a three-day music event instead. Members were assured that if approved the expanded event would not impact on the local area.
DRAG QUEENS RAISE £18K FOR DAMAGED CHURCH ROOF
- Drag queens have raised £18,000 for a church damaged during Storm Darragh by hosting a “carol service with a difference”.
- The roof of St Andrew's United Reformed Church in Roath, Cardiff was badly hit by the recent high winds and heavy rain and serious money was needed to get it fixed.
