Céad Míle Fáilte
It is Todd once again. In this week’s issue we have no new episodes of our podcasts, however we have included one of the bog posts from Marc’s Patreon. We do feature new episodes of Tales for Wales and Celt in a Twist. The articles featured are about the year in folk & traditional music, a derelict building in Wales, & 10 unmissable trips to Scotland. The highlighted festival is the Out to Lunch Arts Festival taking place all of January at multiple venues across Belfast. We also highlight the new Kickstarter.

TALES FOR WALES: 104. 2024 IN MEMORIAM
- Where does the time go, eh? Another year fades to memory as the spry chick of another hatches from its temporal egg. As New Year fast approaches we thought we'd go over some of the more significant events that happened in Wales throughout 2024 A.D. and just for a laugh we thought we'd go off topic a lot as well.
2024 – A VINTAGE YEAR FOR FOLK AND TRADITIONAL MUSIC
- THERE was cause for celebration amongst traditional music fans this year as the remaining original members of The Bothy Band reunited for the first time in almost 45 years for an appearance at the Waterfront Hall in February, swiftly followed by a TG4 documentary about the band in March which included new live studio performances. Though planned live shows at the National Concert Hall in Dublin over the summer were cancelled, the band hopes to reschedule in 2025.

ENORMOUS BUILDING LEFT DERELICT IN ONE OF WALES' MOST PROMINENT LOCATIONS
- A magnificent listed building that has been disused for four decades continues to be left to rot. The historic Marine building, which overlooks the car park at Penarth Marina and adjoins The Old Custom House restaurant, has been boarded up and dilapidated for as long as many can remember.
- Once a trendy Victorian hotel – completed in a French renaissance style with pavilion roof towers and ornamental iron balconies – the building has since been haunted by difficulties in securing funding to preserve its future. The Grade II-listed three-storey building was previously used as apartments and offices but has been vacant since the early 1980s. It has gradually deteriorated, suffering from fire and water damage over the decades.
SCOTLAND'S TOP 10 ‘UNMISSABLE' 2025 TRIPS NAMED – SEE THE FULL LIST
- Highland Experience Tourshas shared its picks for the top 10 places to visit in Scotland in 2025 for anyone stuck for ideas.
- Topping the list at number one is the Outer Hebrides, with major islands including Lewis and Harris, North Uist, South Uist and Barra.
OUT TO LUNCH ARTS FESTIVAL
- In 2006 we established the Out to Lunch Arts Festival – a three and a half week festival in January offering lunchtime (and latterly evening) shows featuring the best in comedy, theatre, literature and music. With shows and a hot lunch for £00, Out to Lunch has become one of the best loved Winter festivals on these islands drawing artists and audiences from all over the world.
