ERIN’S ISLE: CORK’S ENGLISH MARKET

  • The English Market in Cork is a beautiful rendition of the markets you can find in the UK. And although it originated at a time when England ruled over Ireland, it is still celebrated as a belief in tradition.
  • Originally opened in the 18th century, the building i s a two-story market with an arched ceiling and it is packed with more than 50 vendors. It started as a meat market but has grown into a full market with a focus on freshness, locally grown, organic products and eco-friendly companies.

JOYCE’S DUBLIN COMES ALIVE ON STAGE IN VOLTA THEATRE’S NEW PRODUCTION

  • THE Irish Cultural Centre in Hammersmith will host the UK premiere of two compelling stage adaptations from James Joyce’s short story collection Dubliners this weekend.
  • Counterparts and A Little Cloud will run at the west London venue today, Friday, July 11 and tomorrow Saturday, July 12.
  • Presented by Volta Theatre Company, the double bill offers an intimate, affecting portrait of early 20th-century Dublin, with live period music enriching the atmosphere.

TEN PEOPLE GRANTED EXEMPTIONS TO BE FAST-TRACKED INTO PUBLIC HOUSING

‘WE'RE VERY LUCKY’: THEATRE CHAMPION URGES ISLAND TO CHERISH GAIETY AS IT TURNS 125

  • Today marks a milestone for one of the Isle of Man’s most treasured cultural gems – the Gaiety Theatre, which celebrates its 125th anniversary.
  • The much-loved venue on Douglas Promenade first opened its doors on July 16, 1900, with a performance of The Telephone Girl, a West End comedy starring Miss Ada Blanche.
