THE IRISH PAGAN SCHOOL PODCAST: IRELAND'S DANGEROUS WATER HOUND

  • Did you know Ireland has its very own terrifying water hound from mythology? Known as the Dobhar Cú, or “dark water hound,” this creature is said to be part hound, part otter, and entirely deadly. In this video, Jon O’Sullivan from the Irish Pagan School shares the chilling legend of the Dobhar Cú, its ties to Irish folklore, and the haunting 18th-century story immortalised on a gravestone in County Leitrim.

AN POST MARKS 25 YEARS OF WESTLIFE WITH SPECIAL STAMP ISSUE

  • A SPECIAL set of stamps have been issued to mark 25 years since Westlife began touring.
  • An Post have launched the limited-edition Westlife 25 stamp collection this month.
  • They pay tribute to the iconic Irish boy band, which was founded in Dublin in 1998 and has now been going for more than a quarter of a century.

RETURN OF BLACKWEIR GIGS MET WITH MIXED REACTION

  • The announcement that Blackweir Live concerts are set to return next summer has been met with mixed reaction.
  • On Monday, it was announced that the concerts will take place in Blackweir Fields again next summer with Lewis Capaldi set to headline one of the gigs.

CORNISH CLUNG ON AS LIVING LANGUAGE BEYOND DOLLY PENTREATH, SAYS WRITER

  • The legend that Cornish vanished as a living language with the death of the fish seller Dolly Pentreath in the late 18th century is being challenged by one of the world’s leading experts on the Celtic culture of the far south-west of Britain.
  • Pentreath, from the harbourside town of Mousehole on the Cornish south coast, died in 1777 aged 85 and the narrative developed that she was the last true speaker of Kernewek.

CIRCLE CITY IRISH FEST

  • The Circle City Irish Festival (CCIF), an all volunteer 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, was formed in 2023 to host the first festival.
  • CCIF is comprised of AOH, LOAH, GAA, and Emerald Society. The Irish Language foundation as well is involved. It is our goal to continue the fine work already established by previous groups and continue the traditions all of our groups are dedicated in preserving.
  • We continue the ideas established by Alice Davis, Terry Sweeney, and Mary Coffey. We honor our past, focus on our present, and look to the future. All are welcome to the festival.
  • The Irish People have handed down a rich culture and history. Their struggles included famine and deprivation of education. Through a presentation of an annual festival, CCIFL will offer Irish cultural and historical programs that will inform its audience and generate support for the reduction of hunger and illiteracy in Central Indiana.
  • Some of the entertainers you will see are Laughing Jack, Highland Reign, Narrowbacks, Brigid’s Cross, & many others.
