Irish & Celtic Music Magazine: St. Patrick

It's St Patrick's Month. That means there are a bunch of new Celtic CDs that will be released. I could use your help. What bands do you know that have released new CDs?

BAREHEAD BARDS | ATLANTA CELTIC MUSIC

  • Some bands have professional polish, some have incredible musical ability, while still others sing like the angels themselves. The Barehead Bards have a completely different skill set—they enthusiastically present music they love, strumming along and harmonizing while spreading joy along the way! Irish tunes, fiddle music, and drinking songs are among the things that you’ll hear the Barehead Bards play.

ARE WE IN THE GOLDEN AGE OF CELTIC MUSIC?

  • Today, we meet Liesel Wilson.  Liesel has been playing fiddle/violin for most of her life. She began playing Chinese erhu during her Chinese language studies in high school and college.  She specializes in singing in languages besides English, including Mandarin Chinese, Gàidhlig, Irish, Early Scots, Russian, Spanish, and Welsh.  She is a former member of Blue Canvas Orchestra and Chance Ensemble. She has performed throughout the U.S. and Scotland as a member of Willowgreen. They were added to the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast last year along with her own solo music.
  • However, it wasn’t until 2013 or 2014 that I finally wrote my first good love song for my wife. I had written others. But they never went anywhere. The song was called “Wherever I May Roam”.

PODCASTS FOR ST PATRICK'S DAY

  • There’s an old saying that says everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s day…and while we all know that this really isn’t true, people do have the urge to get in on the fun and do some Irish things for this holiday! Some people go to a parade, others hit a bar for a pint and some impromptu Irish music, and still others pop in a CD or stream some Celtic music online. When it comes right down to it, there’s no “right” way to celebrate!
