Do You Want MORE Firefly Music?

Greetings fellow Browncoats!

Back in May, I performed at FuMPFest. This is a funny music festival in Chicago. There, I met up with Mikey Mason.

Have you heard of him?

Maybe not, but you might've seen his music video “She Don't Like Firefly“. It's HI-larious!

(side note: if you like Dungeons & Dragons, and you haven't heard his song “Best Game Ever” OMG, you're missing out!)

Mikey is a fellow Browncoat. When I heard that song a few years back, I asked him to open for one of my Firefly Drinking Songs concerts at Gen Con. He was AMAZING!

I credit his performance with pushing the entire show up one more notch. Since then, He's been a part of every one of my Firefly shows. In fact, we're scheduling a tour centered around Firefly. It'll be out this December.

But I'm getting ahead of myself…

There we were in Canton… I mean Chicago, drinking some pints chatting about taking Firefly Drinking Songs on tour. We talked about our love of the show and how it shapes our lives and experiences. We talked about our favorite characters… and music. Mikey kept going on about writing a new song for each episode of Firefly.

I'll be honest. At the time, I was a hesitant. It seemed like a lot of work to commit to. I am a slow songwriter at best. I don't crank out nearly enough music. Not like Mikey.

But something clicked in my brain after I left. I wanted to make this happen.

I chatted about it on social media. I brainstormed publicly. Then Brennan's Irish Pub in Birmingham, Alabama said, “We'd love to host a show”.

I called up Mikey Mason and said, “Dude. Do you still want to do this?”

Next thing I knew, the Blue Sun Holiday Spectacular Tour was born. Yes. There's even a video. Mikey is beating down doors askin' folks if they would like to host us.

I have a lot of time commitments at present. My wife is out of town and finishing up a Master's program. I'm taking care of my daughters full time. Nevertheless, we have set aside several dates in December for Firefly music and Christmas music.

Now, any sensible person would stop there…

No one has really credited me with much sense though. I do things against the grain. If there's one characteristic that has fueled my success, it's perseverance. I keep going long after I probably should stop.

And I have ideas… so many ideas… and I want them ALL to be fulfilled!

One such idea is a new Firefly podcast!

There ain't many Firefly podcasts still online. The Signal shut down in 2014. The Sending a Wave UK Firefly and Serenity podcast recorded their last show in March. Those were two of the biggest. The Firefly : Balls and Bayonets Brigade is probably the last. They're podcasting a Firefly RPG they are playing

I interviewed Mikey last month for my Celtfather Music & Travel podcast. Check out show “#246: She Don't Like Firefly, Interview w/Mikey Mason“. We did some brainstorming. I asked him if we could start a new Firefly podcast together to promote our Firefly tour. He said, yes, but there's a catch…

We are both on Patreon. We set milestone goals to make this podcast happen. My goal was reached today. Mikey is almost there as well.

But it's the extra bit Mikey threw in that makes this an incredible idea.

You can find a bunch of podcasts that reviewed the TV show Firefly. But none have added a musical twist.

That's right. When we both reach our goals, we will record the podcast and we will follow through with Mikey's idea to write one new song for each episode of the podcast.

*insert jaw drop here*

Yeah. That kinda blew my mind too. Assuming I'm still at my goal when Mikey hits his, that means we have our work cut out for us.

And I haven't told Mikey yet, but I have another even COOLER idea to bring this whole thing full circle… I'll announce it when we launch the first episode.

I'm getting excited about writing new Firefly music… my way, as I mention in the latest Celtfather episode.

Oh boy! I love this idea. If this happens, it could do great things for this series we love. Or at the very least, it could inspire some wonderful new music.

All that said, I want to thank everyone who supported my music for this new project.

You can find Mikey Mason's Patreon page here. I want to ask you to support Mikey's music too. Mind you, sign up only if you love it.

While his style is way different from mine, he's writing some fantastic songs. I'm confident you'll fall in love with his music like I have.

Thanks. And I hope to see you on one of our Blue Sun tours!

PS. If you want to catch us on tour, can you do me a small favor. Please complete this form. I want to know how to reach you if this happens.
