Just about every week, I get a few emails from people asking me to play in this or that location. The problem is finding venues, contacting them, and booking the shows. I'm a poor booking agent. The problem is I don't have a lot of time to find venues, and most venues book by phone rather than email (and I prefer email).
That means if you want me to play in your area, you have to be pretty dedicated to making it happen. Here are the best ways to get me to play in your area:
- Contact a local folk venue that is focused on music (most Irish pubs are not) and tell them about me.
- Contact local Celtic or folk festivals and suggest me as a performer
- Contact local Sci Fi Conventions and suggest they book me,
You should also organize a campaign with other Gunn Runners to also email the venue, festival, or convention (not all at once). Or better yet…
- Organize a house concert at your house or a friend's house.
I love Sci Fi Conventions. I think they are my most targeted audience. People who go to cons are Rennies, Geeks, and Celts. Those are my people.
People always suggest Ren Faires, but the typical patron who attends a Ren Faire doesn't really care for my music. It's the ones who get involved in the faire, the ones who work the faires. Those are my people. And they are also the ones who show up at Sci Fi Cons to play.
However, of those my favorite venues, my abosolute favorites are house concerts. They're small and personal. It's not about me. It's about the environment that the host creates, one focused on music with a friendly atmosphere.
I would love to play more house concerts. If you'd like to find out more about 'em, then check out this link about house concerts. Then TALK to me. Let's see how possible we can make it!
