Friday Night at DragonCon

DragonCon was a lot more relaxing for me this year.  I'm sure having the family with me made a big difference.  Last year, I was a wee bit worried about how I would take care of a family as a musician.  I took it easy and had fun this weekend.  Some awesome shows helped!

Originally, I thought I would be playing non-stop around the convention.  That was not the case.  Starting Friday morning, I was swamped by Gunn Runners buying CDs, dropping by to say “Hi”, and to tell me how much they enjoy my podcast(s).

The horde of people kinda blew my original plans out of the water.  I took a quick break to open up the podcast track.  Then I was back at the table.  I left again for the art show.  Right after that, I had a show on the Concourse.  The show was the first where I ran into some autoharp technical difficulties.  Despite that I felt it was a good show.  However, the best part of Friday was the Filk Concert that night.  It was a rockin' show!

The Concert got me wondering why I had so much fun.  I think it had to do with all of the new material I debuted this weekend.  My first two years performing solo at DragonCon felt like I was still following in the Brobdingnagian Bards footsteps.  Yes, I released some new material last year with Kilted For Her Pleasure, but this year I had a TON of new music.

I introduced a bunch of new Firefly Drinking Songs.  I also debuted a bunch of songs from Don't Go Drinking With Hobbits.  In fact, I kicked off the Friday night show with a pre-show of hobbit drinking songs and zombie songs.

When I left the convention that evening, my voice may've been a wee bit hoarse, but my enthusiasm was raging.  I shared a brand new set of music, while still highlighting some of the Gunn Runners' favorites.

It was awesome!  I'll continue with Saturday in a wee bit.
