Celtic Songlines: Slán go fóill (Goodbye, for now)

  • This week on Celtic Songlines we bring a close to a few wonderful years providing Celtic music on the KDRT airwaves. This final program includes several of my favorite artists and tunes including Ashley Davis, the Pied Pipers, Liz Carroll & John Doyle, Al Petteway, Kris Colt, Barley Juice, Niamh Dunne, Danú, Lúnasa and Golden Bough. EDINBURGH CASTLE AND SCOTLAND'S REDCOATS RECKONING

  • Edinburgh Castle has promised to review a cafe name that critics claim is “deeply offensive to the Scottish people”.
  • Almost 4,000 people have signed a petition demanding that the castle's Redcoat Cafe be renamed because of its links to the British Army's crushing defeat of the Jacobites and the Highland Clearances in the 18th century.

Red kites: White leucistic bird visit Powys farm

  • A rare type of red kite has been spotted at a farm in Powys, with three of the birds regularly visiting.
  • Gigrin Farm in Rhayader says three leucistic red kites – which is white – have been visiting for the past few months with two sometimes coming at the same time.
  • Some visitors have managed to spot them, including Rodney Holbrook who managed to get a picture of the bird.

Isle of Man Coastguards heroically rescue Byron the dog from dangerous cliff edge

  • Peel Coastguard Rescue Team were called out to an animal cliff rescue near Glen Maye on Tuesday.
  • Byron the dog was trapped 40 metres down a thick, overgrown slope away from the cliff edge on the coastal path north of Glen Maye.
