GRACE O’MALLEY, PIRATE QUEEN
- It’s a simple fact that Grace O’Malley is a legendary figure throughout the Mayo region, and those interested in learning more about this historic woman will find there’s plenty to check out in the area.
- O’Malley came from a seafaring family in the Clew Bay area, and she stepped up to take an active role in this lifestyle at a young age.
- There are many interesting, dramatic stories about her—probably one of the most famous is that she gave birth to her son while at sea and was on the deck of the ship fighting off pirates not too long afterward. Sounds pretty fierce to me!
- O’Malley is also said to have met with Queen Elizabeth I to negotiate the release of members of her family, which she did successfully.

CELTIC SOURCE: WHO IS MANAWYDAN?
- Manawydan in Welsh myth and Manannán in Irish myth are often considered variations on the same mythological figure. But is this true? And if so what connects them? Part 6 of Rhiannon's Mabinogi.
DAILY JOURNAL FROM THE CELTIC INVASION OF LOCH LOMOND
- I finished up the itinerary for this year's Celtic Invasion of County Mayo, Ireland. It's a good time to finally take a look at last year's invasion. I kept a daily journal with lots of short bullet points so that I could be sure to remember everything as it happened. So let's get started.
Read the journal and see pictures of the trip.
U2’S ONWARD AND MEANDERING JOURNEY
- Never a rock band to allow the grass to grow even a millimetre under their communal feet, U2 didn’t spend downtime during the pandemic to binge-watch TV shows. Instead (as we now know), they devised a two-pronged creative/commercial assault that was spearheaded, as usual, by the band’s two primary instigators – Edge (aka Dave Evans) and Bono (aka Paul Hewson).
