“Drunken Sailor” was one of the early songs I learned in my music career. The Brobdingnagian Bards released our version back in 2001. But it was nearly a year earlier when I combined the song with the Scottish song, “Donald, Where's Your Trousers“.
It turns out that was a brilliant decision. If for no other reason than after singing the song title and switching to “Drunken Sailor”, I sang, “Way ho up she rises”. It was John Aielli of Eklektikos who mademerealize the idea that “up she rises” could indicate Donald's kilt. What can I say, I'm a wee bit slow sometimes.
This particular version does not include that wonderful pairing. My goal instead was to just feature this great sea shanty in its mostly traditional form. This is a rough mix from my upcoming CD Celtic Music Is Freedom, which you can now sponsor on the website.
It looks like it was a good decision to move the Pledge Date back a couple weeks. I already had five people say they need to wait until August to contribute. So the final date to contribute is now August 13, 2012. I won't move the date back any further than that. By then most everyone should be back from their summer vacations and know about my new album Celtic Music Is Freedom.
As an exciting side note, The Langer's Ball reached their Kickstarter goal at the end of June. I was blown away that Celtic rock band Enter the Haggis has already reached their own Kickstarter goal of $20K with 53 days to go on their campaign. Big congrats guys!
