This was the week of flowers, freeze tag, and pain.
I. Love. Atlanta. In the spring. The flowers continually blow me away. Our yard is lush with beautiful roses and color. It makes me happy daily. People stop to say, “Wow! I love your flowers.” We are so fortunate and grateful to have whoever landscaped this home. Because wow!
The latest game to hit our household is freeze tag. I remember when I was a kid we played freeze tag a lot in Maryland. There was a big common ground in our neighborhood. Lots of space to play games. So we did.
Baseball. Football. Soccer. And of course, freeze tag.
Inara needed exercise last week. So she and I started playing chase in the front yard. Then Kenzie joined us. You need at least three for freeze tag. The kids are addicted!
I am too. I'm having a lot of fun…except for the pain.
I'm not as young as I once was. And going from stop to 90 miles an hour in 2 seconds is painful. One day, I'll remember to stretch before we play.
Despite the pain… I'm happy.
BRIGHT SIDE OF EVERYTHING
“Bright Side of Everything” is a new song that was inspired by the episode “The Message” from Firefly. Simon and Kaylee are looking at a dead cow fetus they were told was an alien. Simon laments they wasted their money. But Kaylee finds something happy about the moment. To which Simon responds, “You manage to find the bright side of every single thing”. So I decided to write a song for Kaylee.
This song is about finding happiness in every single thing. The story is about two people in love. The storyteller runs into constant walls. But the other finds the bright side in everything. Even when the storyteller is on his deathbed, she's there by his side to lift him up and show him there's a way to find happiness.
Read the lyrics to “Bright Side of Everything” here. Then find out more about the song and how you can listen to a rough cut… in case you miss tomorrow's Coffee with The Celtfather show. I go on at 10:30 AM EST.
WILD ROVER
One of the most-famous Irish drinking songs is “Wild Rover”. But is it truly a drinking song? Or is it a temperance song? And is it truly Irish? Or is it Scottish, English or something else?
It's hard to tell. But my latest video on YouTube is me singing “Wild Rover”. I recorded the video last week. And even made an About the Wild Rover episode of Stories from the Road as part of my Gunn Runners Club.
That comes out next week. I'll tell you about a funny moment when I forgot the lyrics of this song stage…
