With those giant conventions like Dragon Con and Gen Con, I forget how amazing small science fiction conventions are. I had such a great weekend at Multiverse this weekend here in Atlanta. No, I don't have huge audiences or make killer sales. But it was much more personal than I usually experience at the big cons. And I can do things…
I went to podcasting meetup. We talked about the things we loved about podcasting. We offered ideas and suggestions on how to do things better. I got some great tips.
I got to chat with other artists and writers. It was just a very heartwarming experience. I felt a little more like I was a part of the community. Just like at JordanCon this summer.
That's definitely something I want more of at conventions in the future. Hopefully, I'll get started at CONjuration in November.
What kind of personal connections have you made at conventions or festivals?
You can read more about what's new on my blog, including:
- Murphy's Law on Pub Songs & Stories
- Firefly Drinking Songs Livestream This Thursday at 8 PM Eastern, and
- a Super Shiny Firefly CD Special!
MURPHY'S LAW
Murphy’s Law happens to the best of us including most musicians, but the Homespun Ceilidh Band turned a bunch of funny stories inspired by the Law into a fun song.
Marc Gunn shares a story about another Murphy, Captain Black Jack Murphy, and how a Talk Like a Pirate Day accent led to a dreadful story of air pirates and hunting dragons.
It’s all on Pub Song & Stories #241. Listen.
- This is the gig poster made by my daughter, Kenzie. How amazing is that! It was her first time ever drawing Serenity!
FIREFLY DRINKING SONGS LIVESTREAM
This Thursday is the next Celtfather Live. But I'm doing it a wee bit different. I'm putting on a full hour-long show of Firefly Drinking Songs. It's gonna be more like what I do at conventions. You know, the Bob Hope-style USO show for Independents on the frontline during the Unification War.
That's the plan anyways. Yes. I'll also take a few requests at the end. But mostly, we are singing Firefly songs.
Tickets are now on sale for just $8. But you can save 15% as a subscribe to the newsletter or save 25% if you're a Patreon in my Gunn Runners Club.
SUPER SHINY FIREFLY CD SPECIAL
The past couple of years have been really good for me when it comes to marketing my music. I'm not just playing shows. I'm seriously *thinking* about how to do everything better. Something I did haphazardly in the past.
Take for instance CD sales. I finally realized that one of the big reasons why people still buy CDs is to archive your music. You want a physical copy of the album… just in case. I totally get that.
The Irish & Celtic Music Podcast is going on 16 years. How many bands disappeared and removed their albums from distribution?
A lot! My podcast is one of the last places you are able to listen to some songs.
I have a few CDs that I don't plan to reprint, including: What Color Is Your Dragon?, Happy Songs of Death, and The Bridge. They were good albums. But they are old. The CDs no longer sell well enough. I'm discontinuing them.
How will you listen in the future if you don't have your music archived?
This month, you can ARCHIVE FIVE CDs with this limited CD special. You can get my super-popular Firefly Drinking Songs CD, plus four more albums and a sticker for just $29 on Bandcamp.
Offers ends on October 29.
Not only will you have archive copies of my CDs, but you'll also save 63% off the regular price.
OH! You can use those same discount codes above to make the price even more obscenely low than it already is.
Thank you for supporting my music.
Slainte and Stay Shiny!
