Musicians Suffer from Anonymity

Most indie musicians suffer from anonymity. People don't talk about them or their music. Flying Fish Sailors are no exception. They finally released their album Loch Ness Monster for digital distribution. Hooray… for you!

You have to hear their song “Flupandemic”. It's hilarious. It's truly a happy song of death.

In fact, I tried getting permission to record it for “Happy Songs of Death” years ago. They didn't want another artist to play their signature song. I can appreciate that even if I don't share their rationale.

For me, it's sad that songs like this don't get covered by more people. That's the problem–anonymity. Our songs don't get heard by enough people.

It's my policy to give artists permission to play my songs. If you love something enough that you want to play… or even record my music, then WOW!

Thank you for that honor!

Please, please, please record away. Cover my music.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Oh! And send me a copy. I would love to hear your take.

I can only think of two people who have publicly covered my songs. Irish singer and metalhead, Matt Hughes is one. The other is a woman on YouTube.

That said, The Stubby Shillelaghs have covered songs that the Brobdingnagian Bards popularized like “Jedi Drinking Song”. But again, there are not many.

Incidentally, The Stubby Shillelaghs have a new EP called The Great War. Seems appropriate to mention since we're talking about the “Flupandemic” from Word War 1.

The EP features several songs inspired by World War I. They are powerful.
