Marc's Musings Greetings <:firstname:>, We had a great time a the Texas Renaissance Festival a few weeks back. It's always wonderful to see old friends and make new ones. I want to thank everyone who made it out. BUY NOTHING DAY It's hard to believe that the Christmas holidays are rapidly approaching. The first Saturday after Thanksgiving marks the biggest day of the year for people buying Christmas gifts. It's really kinda sad. People flood the malls and overcharge credit cards to "celebrate" a holiday season and only end up in debt. That's why a few years back the first Saturday after Thankgsgiving was named "Buy Nothing Day" by a group called AdBusters. Their goal: rein in the abusive spending that occurs every year. I've been a big fan of this "holiday" for several years now. So celebrate Buy Nothing Day with by not spending money on November 25th. Let the world hear. That said, I must say it's always a dilemna for me. I spent a number of years fighting to escape massive credit card debt from some stupid spending of mine during college. Happily, I'm no longer in debt. Now as a musician, my living comes from the sales of our CDs. So I really hate telling people that Christmas is coming, so please buy our CDs to give to people. So support this cynical holiday and tell your friends about it. We'll worry about Christmas promotions later. Meanwhile... CAT CD RELEASE PARTY AT THINGS CELTIC My new Cat CD is doing quite well. It spent a week as one of CDBaby's Top 20 albums. Now I am finally officially releasing the CD to Austin. I have two gigs scheduled. The first one is this weekend: Where: Things Celtic I would love it if you would join me at Things Celtic for this exclusive event. I will play many of my Cat songs as well as some other faves. To make it the most fun, we need people. So please join me. The second's details are coming soon, but it's a benefit for Shadow Cats. Shadow Cats is a non-profit, all-volunteer group of individuals dedicated to improving the lives of abused, abandoned, feral, stray, and injured cats. They do not take in owner-released animals, but instead focus their efforts into helping un-owned stray and feral cats and kittens, through Trap-Neuter-Return-Maintain and/or other socialization and relocation programs. The show will be in December, and I may have a full three-piece band. I'll keep ye informed. Meantime, I hope you will support my introduction of Cat songs to the world by purchasing a copy of Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers. And remember if you buy two or more, you'll save 20% off each CD. Or you can go to the adoption page and buy 10 or more for even greater savings. HOUSE CONCERTS IN VIRGINIA AND RANDOM TIDBITS Thanks to everyone who sent me addresses and contact information for cat stores. I'm really excited because I recently found a distributor for the CD in both the U.S. and Canada! As for house concerts, due to the cost of flying, I'm changing dates for a house concert until around the first weekend in 2006. Keep an eye on my LiveJournal for details or you can go to my homepage and find a complete list of upcoming shows I'm doing. Last, since my Christmas time show is cancelled, we're now looking at the possibility of doing our first ever New Years Eve Party. If you have any thoughts or are interested in helping making this happen, please email Andrew at booking@thebards.net?subject=New_Years_Party Let's see what we can do. And many thank yous again for supporting my music and art. --- Drop me a line and say, "mreow!" Slainte!
Marc's Lyrics & Poetry Another Lonely Night I wrote this song in 2001 while performing at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival. It was the first time I was removed from my fiancee at the time, and it got lonely. It took a wee bit of revision, but I finally put together a song that I love. Another lonely night far away from you. Each day comes to a dream-filled end. Then the morning comes and I awake content. Though storm's may come, I'll never let you go. ---
