Singing St Patrick’s Day Songs with Kids

I had an amazing St Patrick's Day on Friday. St Patrick's Day is also my birthday. I decided this year I wanted to celebrate by singing with my girls. It was a full day of music and family and filled with so much joy.

Gwen was at conference this year. So it was just me and the kids. The girls were very sweet on St Patrick's Day morning. No big hullabaloo, but lots of love.

After they headed off to school, I went for a St Patrick's Day morning run. Most of the time, I listen to the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast when I go running. This was the perfect way to start my birthday. I took the longer route, a good 4.5 miles. It felt great.

I got home, showered, and put on kilt. My first show with my daughter, Inara, was at 10 AM. I packed up my gear and headed over to her school.

It was a rainy all day long. Not too heavy, otherwise, I might not've been willing to run. Very light and friendly. Because of the rain, the performance was in the library.

The kids filed in at 10 AM. I think there were four classes. I sang a few songs to “educate” the kids about Celtic music and culture. Then Inara got up and sang with me. She was amazing. We've been practicing a lot. Her voice is getting better and better. Earlier in the week, she found her voice on one song. So she nailed it.

The kids were great too. They sang along during the sing along songs. They were quiet when I was talking. So much better behaved than they were in previous years. I was really impressed. All in all, a great show.

I forgot to post the Celtic Top 20 poll for the second St Patrick's Day episode of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. So I went home and posted that. I made lunch and then I took a birthday nap. I had trouble sleeping the night before. I wanted to be well-rested for later. I didn't set a timer.

No worries there, I had family and friends wake me up calling to wish me happy birthday. LOL. It was a great rest all around.

Inara got home by bus. We chatted for a while. Then we picked up Kenzie from school. From there, we collected their granddad and headed to downtown Decatur. I had a plan.

My plan involved grabbing sushi. We ate at Sushi Avenue with my family and some friends. Then we walked over to Little Shop of Stories for our evening show.

It was still raining so I didn't expect many people. But then, that's not why I did the show.

Inara said she invited several friends who said they'd come. Of course, rain and kids, only one of her friends showed. Inara was overwhelmed with joy to have her friend show up.

The show was so much fun. Inara sang her heart out. She was amazing. There were also maybe 5 families who watched the show as well. It was perfect!

Then off to the Butter & Cream for ice cream, the second-to-last part of my plan.

We ate ice cream. Then who showed up… Gwen!

She caught an early flight and walked into the ice creams shop just as we were finishing up. She hadn't eaten, nor had a friend, so we went out for food and drinks to finish up the evening.

All in all, it was an amazing St Patrick's Day. What a wonderful way to celebrate my birthday!
