I just got home from my recording venture. The first thing I did before starting work is I uploaded the missing file for the St. Patrick's Day Podcast #5. Sorry about that. I forgot to upload the show before I left. Update your podcatcher and it should now be online.
Next is my Celtic Invasion of New Orleans and I will start looking at the Celtic Invasion of Ireland this summer. John has updated the itinerary. I just need to make changes on the website.
Meantime, I have two shows next week. The first is a concert at Moonlight on the Mountain in Birmingham, Alabama. The second is a house concert in Crestview, Florida. Make sure to RSVP if you plan to go to the house concert. For that matter, I'd love to know who's attending the Moonlight on the Mountain show as well. I'll post an event on Facebook.
This Past Week in Marc Gunn Celtic Music
This past week, I spent six days recording songs for future albums as well as songs for my Irish Song Lyrics website. I didn't do any mixing. Nor did I add any additional instrumentation. It's just me and the autoharp… Okay, there was a little percussion I played.
I've been singing “Rising of the Moon” a lot to my daughter as I'm burping her. I worked out a wee rhythm on her back. So I asked my wife if I could record Kenzie as percussion, and she agreed. A good mic and the song now has some percussion. But aside from that, there is no further instrumentation.
I recorded a bunch of Scottish songs as well as some Irish ones for that website. I think those will be fairly simple mixes for the final album. The goal is ultimately to add new pages to the song lyrics website. So that's what I'll be doing.
Aside from that, I spent a wee bit o'time recording some hobbit songs. Rie Sheridan Rose wrote a TON of hobbit song lyrics. The original goal was to release an album called Hobbit Drinking Songs, but I think I want to change the name of that album to…
Hobbit Songs of Drinking and….
If you can help me finish that album title, I'd appreciate it. I haven't figured it out yet. There are a bunch of drinking songs, but there are also a bunch of good old-fashioned folk songs as you might imagine hearing from hobbits.
St Patrick's Day Shindig?
Yesterday, I talked to the Bedlam Bards about the Firefly Drinking Songs album we are planning. We have just two more songs we need to re-record live before we are done with the album. So it's time to start planning when to record. The best time period to do so is while I'm visiting Austin. And since I'm in Austin for three weekends of Sherwood Forest Faire, we just need to pick a date. I will also be in Austin for St. Patrick's Day.
What would You think about joining us for an evening of Celtic music and some Firefly songs with a St Patrick's Day Shindig?
If you're interested, we need to find a venue where we can charge a cover and that has beer. Would you go to something in Bastrop? San Antonio? OR do you have a home. Would you like to host a house concert/shindig?
Well, let me know what your thoughts are. We need to pull this together very soon if we're to pull it off.
Celtic Music Promotion This Week
Okay. This week is the wrong time to say it. Most of my week will be spent guiding folks around New Orleans. But I will also be back on board with my Celtic MP3s Music Magazine. I hope to figure out what's happening with the free Celtic MP3s that haven't been released in a couple months. Plus, I still have CD reviews like Christina Connell's newest album “Thistle Dew”. And I know there are a lot of pending reviews. I have at least twenty albums still awaiting review. Whew! Lots to do!
Then there are iMixes. I need need to promote my recent Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. I need to record another Pub Songs Podcast. I have newsletters to write and music to promote. Plus, there's still email to catch up on from the past week. As I said, I have a lot to do. So I better get started.
Talk to me!
