In 2008, I was really worried that I wouldn't get booked at DragonCon. But I love the convention so much that I decided to find a way to go no matter what. The way I decided was to get an Eternal Membership.
Eternal Memberships aren't cheap (and even more expensive than it was two years ago). To raise money, I came up with fun and unique promotional idea called “What Color Is Your Podcast?” The idea is that you pick ten of your favorite songs of that I play, and I record a podcast Just For You.
In the past ones, I chatted with folks about the music, made up stupid songs on the fly (that was embarrassing), and just had a fun time all around.
It's a fun project for me and great music for you as well. Best of all, the podcast is ALL YOURS! So you can do with it what you will. Give the file to your friends. Burn copies and share it. Or even Horde it for yourself, until I become super-famous, then send it to auction where it sells for 3.2 million dollars. Whatever. Just have fun and enjoy the show.
Sadly, I didn't raise enough money to buy an Eternal Membership that year. But happily, the band got booked. And in 2010, two years later, I'm STILL performing at DragonCon. And solo too! (Here's hoping for many more!).
Now and then someone like Nicole asks about having their own podcast made. And I am happy to oblige.
So go ahead, pick ten songs that you want to hear me sing. Place them in the order you want. I will record a special podcast dedicated to you! An offer like this should cost you thousands of dollars. I mean, after all, it's like hiring me to record a CD for you. But You can be a part of this for a pittance.
Oh! And you can also do the podcast as a dedication to a loved one, a birthday, anniversary, proposal, whatever. Have fun with it! And for now, you can even save a wee bit o'money.
