Why I’m not a Democrat

I voted for George W. Bush for president in 2000. I voted in nearly every election since then. Nearly all of my candidates were Democrats. But I am not a Democrat.

Before Bush, I believed we needed to maintain balance in the government. If we have a Republican for 8 years, I would vote for the non-Republican candidate. But Bush was elected. He used the tragedy on 9/11 to start a war in Iraq. Seeing him lie on camera in front of America, I knew the Republican elites of the time were corrupt.

But I’m like most Americans, I don’t trust most of the people in Washington. A career politician has the ability to manipulate and control the system. That’s what gerrymandering is all about. That’s what voter suppression is all about. Force your beliefs onto other people.

It’s not just Republicans who are gerrymandering. Democrats are too, just not as much. So I just don’t trust the political elites.

However, I’ve always been a bit of an optimist. I look for the good in things. Like I realized the House of Representatives isn’t all corrupt. They have to be re-elected every two years. Some of them have to actually take care of their constituents so they can be re-elected.

It’s only in the solidly Red and Blue districts that corruption can occur. Because they don’t have to have to compromise to get elected. They can be as extremist as a they like. Take Majorie Taylor Greene for instance…

No seriously. Take that psychopath away…

She’s in a solidly Red district. She’s a bat guana crazy conspiracy theorist. She’s an extremist who will probably one day be indicted for corruption or for trying to overthrow the government.

And yet, because it’s a solid red district, she won two terms.

The Republican Party is getting more extreme. They are taking away the rights of individuals. Which is completely anti-American and anti-Democracy. They took away the woman’s right to control her body. They are trying to take away the rights of LGBTQ+. They are trying to marginalize people.

That is one of the main reasons why I vote for Democrats each year. They’re not trying to take away our inalienable rights.

Hell, most are not actually trying to take away the rights of individuals to own guns. That’s just a lie repeated over and over again by the NRA. Democrats just want responsible gun ownership. Which most Serious gun enthusiasts, Left and Right, do too.

So yeah, there’s a LOT of reasons why I vote Democrat. But I said I’m an optimist. So this is why I’m not a Democrat.

I believe that one day Republican voters will realize that an infringement on minority rights WILL affect them. They will suffer the consequences, like many are doing thanks to the greedy and treachery of Trump. Many abandoned the Republican Party because it is corrupt.

They too will vote Democrat. One day, we will have a Democratic president and a Congress with 60+ Democratic Senators and an overwhelmingly Democratic House.

The Supreme Court will be balanced once again. Alito and Thomas will be impeached or drop dead. And we will expand the court thanks to the Democratic majority.

Things will be looking pretty darn good for Democrats. That’s when the corrupt Democrat politicians will go too far. Someone will follow in Trump’s treasonous footsteps, just from a different direction. That’s when I may well vote again for a Republican. Mind you, I'm doubtful it'll happen in my lifetime.

Okay, that doesn’t sound too optimistic. You’re right. I am hopeful instead that America will change the way we vote to something like Ranked Choice Voting or some other means. This will effectively removes the extremists from our election cycle. Then we can break up the two party system, vote for the best person for the job, and have a politicians that work together for the betterment of American rather than exclusively for the betterment of their party.
