You know you're a musician when you miss “work”.
It's been great getting back to work this past week. I'm getting a ton of work done in preparation for the months ahead. It's extra cool because I'm doing more than just promotion. I'm creating.
Creation is a fantastic thing. I love seeing an idea evolve into something tangible. I can't wait to get a copy of Firefly Drinking Songs into my hands. To see that cover up close, to touch it, to open it up and read the liner note mistake I/m sure I made in the first printing… Oh well. Nothing's can't be perfect.
Or the new “Celtfather” t-shirt. My printer for this shirt, aka Bilbo Baggins, is extremely flexible with which shirts I pick. So I haven't even gotten to decide what color shirt I will get. Yet, so they will be in my hands like the cool new Fruity Oaty Bards shirts (Limited edition for our Firefly Drinking Song fan-funders. Sorry. None for sale.)
It's a rush to create. Sure, I love the promotion too, just like I love performing. However, most of my time is not spent playing music. It's spent writing. Normally, I spend hours every day writing blogs, responding to emails, recording podcasts, compiling ideas, and a variety of other projects which don't require a whole lot of imagination.
What DOES require imagination is the new table banners I'm working on and the new sticker designs, or deciding what instrument will sound best “Scouring the Shire” and composing a fun, interactive, melody and rhythm for “Let's Get Drunk Tonite”.
Speaking of songs from Don't Go Drinking With Hobbits, I guess it's time for me to get back to work on it. Today, I hope to nail down a new performance of “The Ring of Hope”.
