GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES €9M FUNDING POT TO RESTORE HISTORIC BUILDINGS ACROSS IRELAND
- GRANTS worth €9m have been earmarked by the Irish Government to support the renovation and restoration of some of the country’s most historic buildings.
- The funding, which has been allocated under the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, will see 676 projects receive support.
- That includes €4.5m in funding for 114 projects under the annual Historic Structures Fund (HSF) scheme – which marks the largest ever number of projects supported in an annual round of funding to date – and 562 grants awarded under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS), including 80 for thatched roof buildings.

FEARS FOR FUTURE OF GAELIC LANGUAGE AS COMMUNITY WORKERS’ JOBS UNDER THREAT
- Gaelic-language campaigners and MSPs have protested furiously about plans to axe a network of Gaelic community workers, raising fresh fears about the survival of the language.
- Up to 27 Gaelic development workers based in Hebridean islands, rural counties and Scotland’s major cities are being laid off after the Scottish government cut funding to Bòrd na Gàidhlig(BnG), the body charged with protecting and reviving Gaelic.

- A huge family wrestling event is returning to the island and this time it is all about girl power.
- Megaslam Wrestling is coming back next month with its Mega Event. Organisers say they are bringing an impressive line-up with ‘unforgettable characters’ appearing from across the world. For the first time, the event will also feature the Megaslam Ladies.
DERELICT CORNWALL PINK HOTEL OWNERS TRY AGAIN TO CONVERT BUILDING
- Owners of a derelict hotel overlooking a popular Cornish beach are trying again to convert the building.
- PBHH Ltd, which owns the building, known as the Pink Hotel above Pendower Beach, has submitted a new planning application to Cornwall Council.
