Being Part of the Music

I feel I missed something important about my music these past ten years or so. Listeners don’t just want to listen. They want to be a part of the music.

After eating dinner tonight, a large group of Invaders visited an Irish session at O’Connor’s Courthouse Pub in Dingle. I was a bit late. I was interviewing Gerry O’Beirne for the Pub Songs Podcast.

By the time I arrived, most everyone had departed, gone back to our cottage.

I listened for a wee bit. It was great craic. When I got back to the house, Jan said, “you missed Jim playing his whistles.”

One of my big plans for future Invasions was more music at home. Pace launched a slow session last year. It was wonderful. I wanted to do it again. But I forgot to plan for it.

Sometimes it’s nice to have a bit o’winging it. And so We had our first session of the trip.

Jim led us in a slow session. It reminded me how music is not just about me. It’s about everyone. And I can be a catalyst for helping you to play your own songs.

I feel like I can do good things for others. I can’t wait to see more musicians enter the world.
