Learning to Do Things Better

I am loving blogging of recent. There's something freeing about just being able to shoot the shite about things. It probably would be better if I just journaled privately. But there's also something about learning to do it better. For marketing purposes. And so I blog.

For the past few years, I preferred podcasting. That's because I could just rant for a few minutes about whatever topic and post it. It's a great medium. I still do it on the Stories from the Road podcast on Patreon. That too is very freeing. But I also understand that it's not great content. I don't think it's something that people REALLY WANT to listen to. I also don't think it makes for great evergreen content. The stuff that you can tell people want to read years from now.

That's one of the reasons I started Celtfather Music & Travel. I wanted a place to publicly rant. But I realized that is not the content I really want to create and put out in the world. It's fine for behind-the-scenes stuff. But for the stuff that matters, that inspires me…? Not as much.

I have two podcasts where I “rant”: Celtfather Music & Travel and Pub Songs & Stories. Each started off as a ranting podcast. But each turned into learning to do it better.

I script a lot of what I post these days. Not always. I still like a little randomness in podcasting. But frequently.

It's the same with blogging. I'm learning to do things better.

I'm learning to focus on AN idea. And to share that ONE idea as a blog, with you.

It's tough.

It's hard focusing on one idea and working it to the extremes. But that's where success comes from.

It's from following through from one idea and going as far as you can. That's what marketing is all about.

I could mention CDs or my latest podcasts or upcoming shows. But that pulls me away from the point I'm trying to create–and to learn to do things better.

That's also how we grow. We have time to think about what's most important in life. It's not “To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women”, ala Conan the Barbarian.

It's to bring a little more happiness for my family and also to bring a little more happiness and joy to you.

Hopefully, blogging more frequently will help me continue to do just that.
