Songs of My Father’s People

Celia Ramsay : Songs of My Father's People

When I want to rock out, I put on some Celtic rock or fun Irish drinking songs.  Usually, I like to listen to lyrics.  When there's a lot of music going on, I don't really hear the lyrics.  I hear the music.  That's why I enjoy Ed Miller, Fabrizio de Andre, Nick Hennessey, and a lot of soloists and balladeers.

This new album from Celia Ramsay is all about the song.  If you like Jean Redpath, Mary Black or June Tabor, especially in their early years, you're gonna love this.  Celia focues on the song.  Half the album is sung a capella.  The other half is filled with simplistic arrangements of traditional Scottish and folk songs.

Ceila's voice is robust and elegant with a Scots accent in her songs.  She captures the passion of the songs with intensity rarely heard by solo singers.  This is a gorgeous album.  I highly recommend Songs of My Father's People.  Add it to your collection!

Oh!  Celia Ramsay is also a professional Contra Dance caller in the San Francisco area.  That would be a blast to do.
