As I said, we awoke way too early to attend The Signal Podcast. Not only was I playing music for the show, but I also had a wee part in one of their audio dramas. The pirate accent went over great, especially since my voice was pretty much gone from the night before. A growling pirate is the best I could do with talking, period!
I *sang* the Bedlam Bards‘ song “Freedom Costs”, but oy! was I hitting some bad notes. My voice was in horrible shape. Thank goodness the Browncoats there were singing along. They turned a vocal catastrophe into a piece of magic!
After the podcast, we hung out at the table. I tried not to talk too much so my voice would heal up. I did an “Intro to Songwriting” panel in the filk room. The turnout was small, but I actually had a good time. I still done consider myself the best songwriter, but it's kinda fun sharing the experiences I do have in writing music. I'll have to keep that in mind.
I did a brief walk through of the art show that afternoon before heading back to the table so we could migrate ourselves to my next Filk show. Fortunately, I had Jean Prior at the table helping me sell CDs in between.
The Sunday at 5pm filk concert was well-attended. My daughter was played with other kids while I sang a slightly different set. I keep wanting to have specific themes to my sets. Maybe one day I'll actually plan something solid like that. This set had a few more ballads which are, by far, my favorite songs to sing.
The set ran about 45 minutes before I ran upstairs for the last show of the weekend on the Concourse. There were a lot of parents with children at this show so I scrapped “Lost in the Blood” and replaced it with more kid friendly songs, including “Close Your Eyes”. I saw a few parents glance quickly at their children to see if they were paying enough attention to be traumatized for life. Then they relaxed and laughed along with everyone else.
I was gonna end the show with “Raise a Glass in Parting”, but someone requested “Freedom Costs”. I finished the weekend with that lovely tribute to our soldiers and the 76th Independent Battalion.
We crashed early that night. Gwen and Kenzie left first thing in the morning. I hung out at the table until around 2pm saying my goodbyes.
What a great weekend!
